On July 20 at 2:30 p.m. Eastern, NAHRO’s Legislative Network Advisory Committee Chair, Jennifer Keogh, testified before the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Development. The Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development held a hearing entitled, “Safe at Home: Preserving and Improving Federally Assisted Housing.” Several bills were under consideration at the hearing, including S. 265, the “Public Housing Fire Safety Act,” sponsored by Senator Tina Smith (D-MN). HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge also testified at a hearing on July 20 at 10 a.m. Eastern. The House Committee on Financial Services scheduled a hearing on “Building Back a Better, More Equitable Housing Infrastructure for America: Oversight of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.” The full committee heard testimony from Secretary Fudge. Two bills recently introduced by Chairwoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) are included in the hearing:

• The “Housing Is Infrastructure Act of 2021”
• The “Ending Homelessness Act of 2021”
