President Trump Signed his Second Term Agenda into Law

Republicans in Congress successfully passed their multi-trillion dollar Budget Reconciliation package after months of back and forth between the House and Senate. One of the provisions NAHRO is excited to see is the expansion of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) passed as part of the sweeping legislation. The July 4^th deadline was one Republicans set for themselves to have the massive tax and spending bill signed into law by President Trump, and they were able to accomplish exactly that.

With the Budget Reconciliation process out of the way, Congress will shift its attention to working on the appropriations bills to fund the government in FY 26. Remember: The Reconciliation process is separate from the FY 26 process, with Reconciliation focusing more on budgetary and spending priorities. FY 26 consists of the twelve appropriations bills that fund the rest of the budget.

Congress has begun working on these appropriations bills and debating them with colleagues — the House released its THUD bill on July 13 and we expect the Senate bill later this month. Congress will only have a short window to work on the HUD funding bill before they’re away from D.C. during the month of August for an annual extended break.

This is where NAHRO comes in!  When members of Congress are back in their districts, their staff are still hard at work on those bills. As NAHRO prepares for August Advocacy, your advocacy is crucial to ensuring Congress and HUD are working with Housers house low to middle income families, seniors, veterans, disabled individuals, and children.

In 2024, NAHRO set a goal of 2,500 individual advocates sending 50,000 letters to Congress and the White House. NAHRO Advocates crushed that goal, with over 10,000 individuals sending over 104,000 letters to Washington. We can’t wait to see what you’ll do during this crucial and pivotal time — let’s raise our voices together!
