HUD Corrects HCV Administrative Fee Payment in August 2026 Via Supplementary Payment

HUD corrected—via a supplementary payment—a Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) administrative fee error that was made in the beginning of August, 2026. 

HUD Publishes Notice on Offsets and Appeals for Original MTW Housing Agencies

Published August 20

This notice discusses the implementation of an offset of funding for the original Moving to Work (MTW) agencies, describes the process by which those initial MTW agencies may appeal, and describes the criteria that HUD will use in evaluating appeals. Offset appeals for initial MTW agencies must be submitted by 5 pm ET on October 19, 2026.

HUD Publishes Revision of Operations Notice for MTW Expansion

In the latest revision, HUD makes a dozen or so changes to the notice. The public comment period for this notice is open until November 2, 2026.

Congress Passes Continuing Resolution Keeping Government Open Until December

Beyond avoiding a government shutdown, the CR contains several important provisions for the housing and voucher programs. The CR also contains an important, albeit potentially temporary, win on another issue of significant concern to NAHRO.

HUD Publishes FY 2027 Fair Market Rents

FMRs have an effective date of October 1, 2026, though housing agencies have three months to align their payment standards with the new FMRs. Comments on the new FMRs or requests for a new FMR evaluation are due by October 1, 2026.

FSS FY26 Annual Funding Notice Published

HUD makes $156.4 million available from FY26 appropriations. Funding per eligible FSS coordinator position ranges from $43,680 to $197,200. Funds are available for renewal positions with the possibility of expansion positions. Applications are due by October 13, 2026.

HUD Publishes Notice for Public Comment Justifying Changes to the CoC NOFO

HUD notes that they are publishing this notice to reinforce its ability to establish the set-aside. The notice announces specific activities HUD has determined to be proven effective at reducing homelessness, strongly emphasizing transitional housing and supportive services only projects. Comments are due by October 13, 2026.
