Take Action: Sign On to Letter Urging Congress to Exempt HUD Affordable Housing Programs from The Build America, Buy America Act

The Build America, Buy America Act (BABA) requires that all iron, steel, construction materials, and manufactured products used in federally funded infrastructure projects be produced in the United States. After meeting with a varied group of housing organizations including NAHRO, our colleagues at the American Institute of Architects are asking organizations to sign a circulating letter urging Congress to exempt privately operated, HUD-funded affordable housing projects from these requirements.

HUD-funded affordable housing projects need an exemption from BABA. The requirements increase costs, create administrative burdens, and cause lengthy delays, all of which threaten the projects’ feasibility. Without an exemption, fewer affordable homes will be built for communities that urgently need them.
