July 2, 2025 — Today, HUD published a notice in the Federal Register that rescinds a 1996 Federal Register notice titled “Office of the Assistant Secretary for Public and Indian Housing; Voter Registration Notice.” The rescinded notice set the prior policy for HUD and states that public housing and section 8 program participants “ . . . be afforded the opportunity to register to vote.” The notice also provided guidance to PHAs to help residents register to vote through legally allowed actions.
