FAQs: What You Need to Know about the NAHRO Summer Symposium

Get ready for the Future of Housing at NAHRO’s Summer Symposium, July 14-15 in Washington, D.C.! As a relatively new event, NAHRO understands that many members are unfamiliar with the benefits and logistics of the Summer Symposium. To help, we’ve put together a quick Frequently Asked Questions list:

Event Basics
What is the Summer Symposium?
A: While the Washington Conference is focused on advocacy, and the National Conference is focused on the full NAHRO experience, the Summer Symposium is a policy and professional development focused event. Our goal is for you to leave D.C. with skills and ideas you can apply at your agencies immediately!

Where are we meeting?
A: All events will take place at the Grand Hyatt Washington, located at 1000 H Street NW, Washington D.C.
We have also reserved a discounted block of rooms at the Grand Hyatt for Summer Symposium attendees. A link to access the block is in your confirmation email, so register first, then reserve your room (by June 21).

Wait … weren’t we just in D.C. in March? Why are we gathering again in July?
A: While the Symposium has been scheduled for a while, we think you’ll all agree that, after the roller-coaster of the spring/summer, housers need holistic support now more than ever. NAHRO has been hard at work tailoring the Symposium agenda to ensure that every attendee walks away with tangible skills and actionable ideas.

Registration + Attendance
What are the registration deadlines?
A: Early Bird registration ($100 off) ends on Tuesday, June 9. However you can still register up until the event, including on-site (prices increase the closer we get to the event).

Who should attend the Summer Symposium?
A: You should! The Future of Housing needs every voice, from commissioners and executives, to boots-on-the-ground practitioners and emerging leaders. Not only is there something for everyone in our session tracks, NAHRO offers unparalleled networking experiences.

I can’t travel that weekend, is there a virtual attendance option?
A: The Summer Symposium is entirely in person; there will be no livestream or virtual attendance option. If you can’t attend, why not encourage a colleague to attend? NAHRO always welcomes first-time conference attendees.

Agenda
Can you give me a summary of sessions?
A: The Summer Symposium kicks off on Thursday night with a Welcome Reception, so please plan to join us if you arrive before 6pm.
Friday begins with an opening plenary session titled “The Future of Housing”, followed by concurrent sessions in policy, professional development, and federal government tracks. During lunch, NAHRO will present its new research report. The afternoon rounds out with more concurrent sessions, and a Plenary Session.
Saturday will start with a Washington Report, followed by two more blocks of concurrent sessions (lunch on your own). The closing plenary session will then lead into a closing reception.
