We’ve reached the third week of our annual August Advocacy campaign! This week, send a letter urging Congress and the Biden administration to fund services and support for the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) program. Congress should fully fund the HCV program administrative fee account and provide mobility services for voucher households.

Administrative fees are crucial to helping voucher households find homes, because it covers the costs of program operations. Public housing agencies (PHAs) use admin fees to complete unit inspections, certify tenant incomes, and brief new families. Lack of adequate administrative funding causes delays in program management, which leads to delays for families moving into their homes.

While fully funding the admin fee account is crucial, it is only the minimum to support an effective voucher program. Congress should also appropriate $491 million in the FY 2022 budget for mobility services such as housing search assistance, landlord recruitment and post-move services. Through existing programs and mobility demonstrations, PHAs have proven their capacity to offer effective mobility services when funding is available.
